One poem down, only two to go!
Next poem i have here is called 'racism is around me everywhere' by Francis Duggan. 'Racism is around me everywhere' was more of a poem focusing on what racist people actually do, but in the previous poem 'dont judge me for exising' focused more on how the victims of racism felt.
The title alone says alot, 'racism is around me everywhere' is a message on it's own becuase it's true. Even today for some it only takes one person who's a different skin colour or culture to just walk past a group of people and all of a sudden they have eyes following them everywhere. But not in a good way, trust me i have seen it myself. The way people stare at you just because you look different. Ugh! it makes me so mad becuase i grew up knowing to treat others as how you would treat yourself. Clearly, these days society has completely forgotten about how to treat someone with respect and equality.
What i really loved about this poem was the way every single line rhymed. Not just the same sound of words, but the choice of certain words poet Francis Duggan chose were not only meaningful, but still rhymed at the same time. You see what i did there? rhyme, time? hahah alrighty then. Oops off topic anyways, my favourite bit was when she mentioned Martin Luther King- "If against racism he did not choose to strive Today the great man he would be alive." When i first read that particular bit, all i could say was, wow! And it's so sad how it's COMPLETELY true. Martin spoke out in his famous speech that one day, there will be equality between white people and black people. And he ended up dieng for that reason. Speaking up about a glorious day he so longed for. That one day we will all come together as one and get rid of all discrimination and hatred. Well i can stand here and tell you right now that the glorious day Martin talked about still has not come today and will not come unless people wake up and realise.... WHAT'S THE POINT???? What's the point to all this madness?? Does it make you feel better trying to categories poeple's rights by their race? NO. If people don't open there eyes to what's REALLY going on RIGHT NOW, then who will??
Anyways thanks again for your support on this theme, dont worry, only one more to go and then i have finished my school project! Woohooo!!! Here is a copy of the poem 'racism is around me everywhere' by Francis Duggan. GOD BLESS everyone and enjoy!
Of human ignorance I am almost in despair For racism is around me everywhere But like they say sheer ignorance is bliss Just like Judas betrayed Jesus with a kiss. Some people carry their honour in a flag And of their Nationality they brag They feel superior and they differentiate And against those who are different they discriminate. So many people still judged by their race For such there never ought to be a place 'A fair go' those untruthful words I do recall There is no such a thing as a 'fair go for all'. Though we live in a so called democracy Of racism we never will be free They judge you by where you come from and the colour of your skin For many equality and respect seems impossible to win. It's been awhile since the days of Martin Luther King His name to it has a familiar ring If against racism he did not choose to strive Today the great man he would be alive. So many holding the reins of power not spiritually aware And racism is around me everywhere And racism only leads to division and war Just goes to show how ignorant some are.
